The Music Business degree course is designed for aspiring music business specialists with a passion for music, the creative industries and business. Furthermore, the course is designed to equip students with essential skills and strategic knowledge to navigate the complex landscape of music commerce, management, and entrepreneurship.

What to expect
With our BA (Hons) Music Business course, you will learn about the music industry as well as business in a broader sense. The course content is up-to-date and relevant for engagement in the modern music industry.
When you graduate, you will have the core skills, behaviours and values the industry is looking for. You will also have all the knowledge to create opportunity and business for yourself.
Our staff are highly experienced practitioners who work in the music industry as label owners, managers, publishers, live promoters and successful independent artists. They have great expertise as well as access to a wide range of industry professionals.
First-year modules will help you learn the basics and understand where you will fit in within the wider music industry. Modules include specific industry focussed content such as Music Publishing, Releasing Music, Artist Management as well as those designed to help you understand the infrastructure and opportunities in the wider creative industries.

Choose your path with optional modules
In years two and three you get to customise your pathway through optional modules. These include industry focussed modules such as Business and Enterprise, Synchronisation, Marketing, and broader modules designed to develop your employability skills ready for the workplace.
The Final Project in year three acts as a bridge between your study and your employment/business start-up where you put into action all that you have learned over the course of the degree.

Music Business Degree graduate Jamie Skinner worked full-time for PR firm LD Communications after securing an internship with them through BIMM's Work Experience scheme. He's since moved on to become a freelance Music Industry consultant.
Nikki undertook internship roles with DMS Publishing, Modest! management and Warner Music Group before finding her feet in A&R & Streaming and Digital Music.
Since completing a BA Hons in Music Business at BIMM London, post-graduate Ryan Brock has secured himself a role as a full-time Radio Plugger, working with Brace Yourself PR.

Mike began his career in the music industry as the bassist for Manchester new wave indie band, Lowline. Having toured extensively in the UK and Europe, the band achieved three consecutive Top 5 singles in UK Indie charts, and received iTunes US’s prestigious ‘Single of the Week’ accolade, as well as being named their ‘Alternative Breakthrough Artist of the Year’.
Caoimhe studied Music at Queen’s University Belfast, and Arts Administration at the University of Paris 8, performing and working in festival and events planning in both cities, before moving to Berlin in 2010 for a job in international project management at the record label, City Slang.
Jeff is the Deputy Course Leader for Music Business at BIMM Music Institute Manchester. He is the co-founder of Un-Convention – a UK-based global music network and development agency established in 2008, which organises music events across five continents, aimed specifically at the grass roots of the industry.
