Student wellbeing
However you’re feeling and whatever you’re going through, we’re here to support you.
Starting a university course in a new city can be both exhilarating and challenging. Adjusting to new responsibilities – like managing rent, bills, and finding a balance between your social life and your studies – can sometimes feel overwhelming.
At BIMM Music Institute, we’re committed to supporting you throughout your journey. From enrolment right the way through to graduation, our dedicated Student Wellbeing Team provides personalised advice and guidance to help you navigate any challenges you may face, big or small.
How we support you
We work hard to ensure that you have the support you need to succeed. Our goal is to create a safe, confidential space where you can explore your personal development in a welcoming and supportive environment. Our Student Wellbeing Advisors offer a variety of services, from scheduled one-to-one sessions to wellbeing drop-ins, giving you the flexibility to access support around your schedule.
Whether you need ongoing support for a diagnosed learning difficulty or mental health condition, or simply a listening ear when times get tough, we’re here to help.
We’ll work with you to build confidence and resilience, offering practical advice on maintaining your wellbeing, connecting you with services like your GP, and signposting specialised local support agencies. We can also refer you to our designated counselling services, either in-house or through trusted local therapy providers. Be bold—take the first step toward achieving your creative, personal and academic goals, knowing that support is always available. Discover some of the ways we support our students below.
Our dedicated Learning Support Team helps students with a variety of needs, including disabilities, neurodiverse conditions, and physical or mental health issues.
We tailor our support according to your individual circumstances and how your condition affects your studies. We encourage you to share details about your disability, neurodiverse condition, or health issue as early as possible in the application process, so we can arrange any necessary support before you arrive.
We can help you create a personalised Learning Support Plan, designed specifically for you. This plan will guide your tutors on how to support you academically and pastorally, while also identifying any reasonable adjustments you may require, such as extra time on assignments. Additionally, you may be eligible for extra support and funding through the Disabled Students’ Allowance (UK students only).
Further information can be found here: Disabled Students Allowance
We can assist with:
- Implementing reasonable adjustments for learning and assessments (e.g., extra time).
- Developing Individual Learning Support Plans tailored to your needs.
- Supporting eligible students with applications for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA).
- Facilitating access to diagnostic assessments for Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs), such as dyslexia or dyspraxia.
- Providing advice and guidance for students seeking assessments for other neurodiverse conditions, including ADHD and Autism.
Sometimes life presents us with challenges that seem too big to manage on our own. It doesn’t matter what the issue is—if you’re struggling or finding it difficult to cope, it’s okay to reach out for support. You might just need a safe space to talk, or you may require a more interactive approach to help you discover the right coping strategies.
Our Student Wellbeing Team can refer you to a trusted counselling service, either in-house or through the local external providers we collaborate with. All you have to do is reach out, and we’ll make sure you get the support you need.
If you’re coming to us from outside the UK, we’ll ensure that you get the most out of your studies and student life.
Our International Team can answer any questions you may have before you arrive. Once you’ve officially joined BIMM Music Institute, the Student Wellbeing Team will be available to provide support and guidance on navigating life in the UK.
Additionally, our Events and Community Team organises activities that will help you meet new people and build friendships.
All BIMM students have access to Togetherall, our mental health and wellbeing portal. Togetherall is an anonymous community where members can seek support for their mental health and wellbeing. The portal is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Once you have enrolled at BIMM Music Institute, you’ll have access to trained professionals, self-assessments, and an array of resources, including a wide range of self-guided courses that you can complete at your own pace.
As a student, you’ll enjoy free access to this global online community, along with professional support from trained experts. Togetherall offers a safe space for you to explore your feelings, get creative, and learn how to effectively manage your mental health and wellbeing.

Our Student Wellbeing Strategy sets out our direction, priorities and goals as we strive to foster a supportive and inclusive culture across the university. This commitment ensures that every student has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of the challenges they may face during their time at BIMM Music Institute.
We are delighted to announce that BIMM Music Institute has partnered with Music Minds Matter, a charity that supports everyone working in the music industry. Together, we are prioritising positive mental health for our music students across the institution.
