Rising Star Laura Doggett Gives Masterclass
Laura Doggett is a name that is on a number of well-regarded tipsters’ “Ones To Watch” list — like Spotify, who put her on their UK ‘Spotlight on 2015’ round-up.
It means that she’s among a handful of highly-regarded breakout artists, including BIMM’s very own BRIT-winner, James Bay; as well as a number of others, including Coasts, Nothing But Thieves and Lapsley.
So with the signs all pointing towards a year of success, it was the perfect time for her to drop into BIMM Bristol to head a masterclass and share the story of her journey so far — as well as her thoughts on what the future holds.
Laura is only 21, which meant that she is at an easily relatable age for our students, and they soaked up her advice as a result.
She spoke openly about the path she has taken as a musician, which has culminated in her signing to the major label RCA. She talked about the rigours of gigging, where she finds songwriting inspiration and passed on some insight on operating as a professional in the music industry.
The singer-songwriter, who hails from Bath, also gave the students an exclusive performance, performing a couple of her songs, which will feature on her debut album, due to be released next year.
It was a fabulous masterclass, full of music, learning, and entertainment — exactly the type of education that we love providing at every BIMM college.
Laura’s about to kick off a nationwide tour, which is sure to cement her place as one of the UK’s most intriguing emerging artists, and so we are so grateful that she found time to visit us and pass on valuable advice just before her life becomes an exciting whirlwind!
