Music Journalism students launch LDN Magazine

16 November, 2018

Music Journalism students at BIMM London have been gaining valuable work experience in the creation, curation and production of LDN, a new music magazine which is available online as well as in physical print.

The monthly publication is being undertaken by a team of BA (Hons) Music Marketing, Media & Communications students who’ve made it their mission to produce of a real-life branded publication featuring music news, artist interviews, reviews, releases, curated playlists and more with control in areas such as content, PR liaison, contributions, sub, design and editing.

We spoke with third year Music Journalism student and Editor of LDN, Maria Galea, who explains in her own words how the project came about.

“BIMM has been giving us the opportunity to write for the BIMM Life magazine since I was in my first year. This year, they allowed us to rebrand and take over the editorial as a whole, from assigning articles and writing to editing and designing. It’s been a challenging yet rewarding experience so far.”

Completed by Deputy Editor Connor Winyard and fellow journalism students – Jack Bartholomew, Ash Hall, Libby Long, Larissa Harrington, Noa Newman and Isabella Aslam on design and contributor duties – the LDN team started work on the first issue (which is out now) with little more than three weeks to write, design, edit and submit the final draft, learning the importance of working to deadlines in the past paced world of printed press.

So, how are the students at BIMM London feeling now that LDN Magazine is in full swing?

“Being involved with this magazine has given more than just the opportunity to see my name in print” Said Maria. “It’s also given me the opportunity to learn how to work on a publication first-hand. I’m now more determined to graduate and start my career within the music industry.”

Deputy Editor, Connor Winyard added,

LDN Magazine is the ideal platform not only to help would-be journalists get their careers off the ground, but also to show off talented new artists that deserve to break. There’s a plethora of good work being done and the prospect of that getting bigger and better is incredibly exciting.”

We very much look forward to seeing what else is in-store for future instalments of LDN, and are proud of all the great work our students are doing. You can stay up to date with the publication by following LDN on their social media streams.
