Masterclass: Jamiroquai’s rhythm section
Rob Harris, Paul Turner and Derrick McKenzie – the rhythm section from Jamiroquai – appeared at BIMM Birmingham recently to treat students to one of their renowned Masterclasses.
It was an amazing day covering a whole range of skills for the students, with Rob, Paul and Derrick playing songs they are renowned for as well as a few covers by some of their key influences. Plus, the trio also covered elements of part-writing, band interaction and how to develop internal clock, feel and groove.
Here’s some footage from a previous visit to BIMM Manchester, for a taste of what their Masterclasses are like.
James Maiden, Head Of Education at BIMM Birmingham had this to say about the Masterclass.
“For the students, so much of what they learn in class at BIMM Birmingham came alive today up close, right in front of their eyes and ears. The Masterclasses brought everything from their techniques and live performance workshop classes together with advice from some of the very best players in the business. The high level advice given to the students covered everything from the way the band communicate onstage and how to practice to coping with the biggest stars in the business singing new riffs for the set into your ear as you walk to the stage to perform in front of 100’000 people at Rock in Rio. It summed up the breadth of the educational experience at BIMM and had the whole live room seriously grooving all afternoon.”
These sorts of Masterclasses are available to all BIMM students across every campus for almost every single week of term.
