Lecturer scores film premiering at Berlinale, Köln 75

19 February, 2025

BIMM University Berlin Songwriting and Music Production lecturer Yak Bondy will see his music featured in the soundtrack of the upcoming music drama Köln 75.

The film, which will have its world premiere at the 75th edition of Berlin’s International Film Festival (otherwise known as the Berlinale), follows the true story of Vera Brandes who, at the age of 17, unwittingly became responsible for creating one of the best-selling jazz records of all time: Keith Jarrett’s 1975 album The Köln Concert.

Köln 75 to celebrate its world premiere at the Berlinale

Köln 75 is the third feature film by Brooklyn-based director Ido Fluk and was produced by One-Two Films. The Berlinale selection committee has selected the film to appear as part of the Berlinale Special programme, one of the festival’s most versatile sections.

Yak, who has taught at BIMM University for over a decade, composed incidental music for several scenes in the film, ranging from bar jazz and soul to edgy proto-punk.

“I am very excited to have my music heard at this year’s Berlinale. While many people associate my name with writing and/or producing songs for artists such as the Spice Girls, Annie Lennox and Mark Morrison, my career began in film and TV. I am thrilled to have played a part in telling this incredible story that represents a defining moment in jazz (and German) music history.”
