Isabel Torres Plays the NME Awards…
BIMM London graduate, Isabel Torres has a fantastic opportunity ahead of her to kick-start 2016.
She has been asked to join Declan McKenna’s band, supporting Mystery Jets, Foals and Lisbon on tour in both Europe and the UK. This will also include the prestigious NME Awards Ceremony Show at the Barfly in London on Monday 15 February 2016.
Isabel is originally from Portugal, where she has already appeared on many national TV channels. She moved to London three years ago to pursue a career in music, starting with the BMus Popular Music Performance degree course at BIMM London.
Her musical journey began when she was 8 years old, when she started playing classical guitar. A few years later she moved onto electric guitar, taking private lessons with guitarist and composer Sandro Norton (MMUS). Isabel has studied at The Berklee College of Music and also The Jazz Workshop in Rome. She now teaches guitar lessons herself, passing on her knowledge to students ranging from 5 to 50 years old and has experience teaching music therapy classes.
Impressively, Isabel won 3rd place in both the Shure Guitar Competition and also in the GTB le Freak competition (which was judged by guitar/producer legend, Nile Rodgers). She has also performed in X-Factor winner, Shayne Ward’s band and played live in many venues including The 100 Club, 02 Academy, Borderline, Casa da Música (Portugal) and Staxtonbury Music Festival.
Isabel is in her final year at BIMM London – and we’re thrilled for her achievements to date. 2016 looks set to be a big year for Isabel and the start of a promising music career.
