Introducing: The Student Mentor Scheme
At BIMM, we understand how moving into higher education is a big step. Moving away from home to a new city for the first time can be a potentially daunting experience for some. So, to ensure our new students have as smooth a transition into BIMM life as possible, our Student Services team are pleased to announce the ‘Student Mentor Scheme’.
The Student Mentor Scheme is a brand-new initiative which is now available across our five UK colleges in Brighton, Bristol, London, Manchester and Birmingham for students starting in 2019. The scheme is designed to ensure that your first year at BIMM is as enjoyable and productive as possible. This is achieved by offering new starters the chance to benefit from advice, guidance and support from a recent BIMM graduate.
Our mentors have been hand-picked because they want to give back to new students starting this year and help you on the journey they have just completed. So, by signing up to the scheme, you’ll benefit from the guidance of someone who has just finished the course you’re starting this year!
Your mentor will be able to give you all sorts of insider information on how to get the best from your first year as a BIMM student. They’ll be on-hand via our online chat forum to help offer guidance across a range of areas, such as:
- What it’s like studying at BIMM.
- Advice on starting your course and coming to BIMM for the first time.
- How to make new friends and take advantage of social events during Freshers week.
- Sharing experiences and advice on student life.
- Tips on how to stay on top of your studies.
- Advice on living in a shared student house for the first time.
- The list goes on!
Meet the mentors
Will Cooper, Head of Student Services at BIMM London, said:
“By signing up to the Student Mentor Scheme now, new students will have the opportunity to discuss whatever’s on their mind before they arrive and so get a head-start on their time with us. Then, when we start the academic year in September, we will give students the chance to meet their mentors face to face, spend some time with them and have a chat in a welcoming environment.”
Should new BIMM students wish to keep in touch with their mentor, they can also check in with them periodically throughout the first year to assess the progress on their course.
We are incredibly excited about this scheme and believe it will be of real benefit to the overall student experience.
The Student Mentor Scheme is open to confirmed new applicants and repeating students only. Information on how to sign up will be communicated by our Admissions Team, who can be contacted on [email protected] or 08442 646 666.
