Imelda May Visits BIMM Dublin
Imelda May and her guitarist husband, Darrel Higham, visited BIMM Dublin for an exclusive Masterclass.
Imelda is an Irish musician, producer and singer-songwriter who has shared the stage with the likes of the Scissor Sisters, Dionne Warwick, Anastasia, Elvis Costello, Jeff Beck, Elton John, Bono, Jamie Cullum and Jools Holland. She has made numerous television appearances, including Later…with Jools Holland, The Graham Norton Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Conan and the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
Highlights of Imelda’s career include winning Best Female Artist of the Year at the 2009 Meteor Awards, having two albums reach number one in the Irish charts, and performing alongside Jeff Beck at the Grammy Awards.
Imelda’s husband joined his wife for the Masterclass – Darrel has played lead guitar for British Rockabilly bands since the 1980s and has worked with artists including Chrissie Hynde, Jeff Beck, Shakin’ Stevens and Eddie Cochran. He now tours and performs with Imelda.
They talked extensively about their music careers, their love of performing live and songwriting techniques, where they encouraged students to put their own unique stamp on their music.
