This kind of feedback from our students makes us incredibly happy, and it’s why we work so hard at BIMM Dublin to bring in the very best in the business for our hugely popular Masterclasses.

Eighty students jostled for space at Tuesday’s sold-out Snarky Puppy Masterclass, and as soon as it began, we realised we were all in for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

But we expected something special – after all, Snarky Puppy’s Michael League is a Grammy Award-winner, and is respected the world over for his bold, experimental, unique music.

Michael has worked with many enormously talented big-name musicians, including Erykah Badu, Justin Timberlake, and Snoop Dogg.

And just like any musician interested in creating new sounds, they all clamoured to work with Snarky Puppy, so you can only imagine the incredible music and conversation that arose in our Masterclass.

Michael and drummer Larnell Lewis opened the students’ eyes to Snarky Puppy’s approach to musicianship, both practically and professionally. They demonstrated improvisation techniques by subtly changing the riff of “Billy Jean”, and explained what they look for in collaborators.

Second year guitar student Sam Killeen was lucky enough to jam with the band, and loved every moment: “I’m a big fan of snarky puppy and I was amazed by their talent and humble nature. Getting to jam with them was a great experience.”

It really was – as Sam said – a great experience, and everyone at BIMM Dublin will be talking about this masterclass for a long time. Thanks Snarky Puppy!
