Ella Mai wins Grammy Award
Ella Mai had an incredible win at the Grammys last weekend when she scooped the award for ‘Best R’n’B Song’ 2019, triumphing over the likes of Kendrick Lamar & SZA, Shawn Mendes, Drake, Brandy Carlile, Zedd & Maren Morris, Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper and Childish Gambino.
The former BIMM London vocal student was nominated for the award shortly after signing a global major label record deal with Sony/ATV.
The past two years has seen Mai’s profile go from strength to strength in the US as well as the UK, aided by the production skills and artistic guidance of DJ Mustard who signed Mai to his 10 Summers label back in 2010.
“I feel like I’ve dreamed of this moment since I was a little girl,” said Mai during the awards ceremony. “And to do it with Mustard, as well, is incredible.”
Ella’s highly anticipated self-titled debut album opened at number five on the Billboard 200 chart on its release in October 2018 and featured cameo appearances from the likes of RCA Records’ H.E.R and R&B star John Legend.
Now, to have walked away from her first Grammy Awards ceremony with a trophy under her arm, it seems nothing can stop Ella from full scale global domination.
