BIMM Music Institute becomes a Music Minds Matter ally

10 October, 2024

We are thrilled to announce that we’ve become a Music Minds Matter ally. Music Minds Matter is a charity dedicated to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing for all those working in music.

A life in music can be immensely fulfilling and exciting and bring real highs, but the lows can create a range of stresses that can negatively impact a person’s mental health and wellbeing. This is why BIMM has become a Music Minds Matter ally. We will be working closely with the charity to ensure our students are well-equipped to manage their mental health and wellbeing during their studies and beyond.

The professionals at Music Minds Matter understand the unique pressures that a life in music can create. They prioritise positive mental wellbeing in the music industry, providing everyone working within it—now including our students—with the tools, knowledge and understanding needed to navigate the industry while supporting their mental health and wellbeing.

Music Minds Matter hosts a series of free, online self-care sessions that provide industry professionals with techniques and strategies to work through challenging times. There are also peer support groups, which give music professionals the chance to listen and be listened to in a safe space of peers from the music industry, facilitated by an accredited counsellor.

“We are delighted that BIMM has become a Music Minds Matter ally. Helping aspiring musicians navigate their way through the industry with mental health and wellbeing support and education is crucial in creating a different culture around mental health in music. We are particularly delighted to be working with students spanning the full spectrum of the music industry, as Music Minds Matter is here for everyone working in music. We look forward to supporting the talent of tomorrow through the allyship between BIMM and Music Minds Matter.”

Grace Meadows, Head of Music Minds Matter

“We know that students face many challenges, and mental health is one of their biggest concerns – it is for this reason that BIMM University puts wellbeing and student support at the very heart of its culture. This new, exciting relationship with Music Minds Matter is a fantastic opportunity to increase awareness of mental health issues whilst further enhancing our support for students. The collaboration will equip students with the necessary tools and knowledge to handle the unique pressures of a career in music, and to thrive academically, professionally and personally. Together, we are committed to supporting our students on their journey towards positive mental wellness, and we’ll do so by providing access to resources, support systems, information, advice, guidance and valuable insights tailored to their needs. BIMM’s alliance with Music Minds Matter underscores our dedication to fostering a culture of mental wellbeing within our university and the wider music community.”
