Adapting in unprecedented times
Giving credit where credit’s due, the students have done an amazing job in working so hard through such a tricky and unprecedented time. COVID-19 has turned everyone’s worlds upside down and inside out – and the live element of the music industry has really taken the brunt of it. However, what has happened and what the arts are great at is getting creative. As an Institute and industry, we’ve rethought old ways and adapted to fit into the new outline that COVID-19 has temporarily left for us. It’s now up to us to reshape a new future for live music.
BIMM London have used this creativity with support from Under the Bridge: the fabulous venue that they have regularly collaborated with in the past. Together, they have adapted, evolved and created a new ‘End Of Semester Showcase’.
In the past, these end of term showcases have celebrated as much of the talent coming through BIMM London as possible. Traditionally, it’s been a fast-paced, hectic and fantastic event, seeing on average 24 acts that have come through an audition phase to perform originals or covers. The events have typically been held across prestigious London venues, such as The Garage, O2 Academy, The 229, and many more. They are a grand celebration of all the students’ hard work and see around 600 students come together to support their peers and let their hair down.
However, with the emergence of COVID, having 600 students together wasn’t going to be possible. Nevertheless, the creative BIMM team came together to add a sprinkle of Christmas cheer and a few twists and changes. Plus, they now have the unique opportunity to open this London event up to everyone – and you can join too.
To live stream the event, head to BIMM London’s Facebook page at 7.30 pm, 10th December. If you’re interested in learning more about our exciting events and about BIMM Institute in general, we are now offering Virtual Open Days. Sign up here.
