BIMM Brighton Alumnus Now a Professional Composer
BIMM Brighton alumnus Sam Fuller has truly landed on his feet since completing his BA (Hons) Degree in Professional Musicianship – Guitar. Since graduating in 2017, he has been working full-time as a Film and TV composer, writing music for a range of formats including, feature films, short films, tv shows, adverts, web series, production music and corporate films.
Following in the footsteps of Hanz Zimmer, Bear McCreary and John Williams, Sam operates as a freelance composer for moving image, creating a broad spectrum of music to spec’ in his home studio.
Writing music to key specifications from producers, directors and marketing firms means that Sam’s musical vocabulary needs to be incredibly broad; from epic orchestral pieces to futuristic electronica.
“My course at BIMM helped me get where I am today because it helped me become more rounded as a musician.” Explained Sam. “It opened my mind to new genres and taught me how to adapt to any style, which is crucial in my line of work, as one day I could be writing heavy metal and the next a full orchestral score.”
Not only does Sam need to be versatile, he also needs to be quick. With the majority of his work being for U.S based production companies who are 5-7 hours behind GMT, he’s used to delivering mixes after the occasional overnight writing session. In fact, it’s not at all unusual for Sam to receive an email at 11pm requesting a new track to be submitted within the next five hours.
This flexibility and strong work ethic are resulting in plenty of work opportunities for Sam through a broad range of companies such as UK Mail, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Barclays, American Express, IBM, Ulta and Kohls, among others.
We’re incredibly pleased to hear that Sam’s doing so well, and we’re sure it won’t be long before we see his name being credited on even bigger feature films. Watch this space for updates, and check out his official website for Sam’s extensive portfolio.
