BIMM Berlin vocal students in session for Kelvin Jones
A selection of vocal students from BIMM Berlin were recently chosen to feature in a stunning live performance alongside UK singer songwriter Kelvin Jones. The acoustic rendition of his latest single, ‘Lights On’ saw a choir performing alongside the gold-selling artist in a raw live performance, which was filmed by music tastemakers ‘Filtr’ in the beautiful Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche (Church of the Holy Cross).
Kelvin’s career launched in 2015 when a demo version of his original track ‘Only Thing We Know’ went viral thanks to thousands of shares on Reddit.com. The young performer soon caught the attention of BIMM Brighton Music Business tutor Bob James (pictured with Kelvin below), who signed him to his artist management company InTune Addicts.
The young songwriter’s profile has grown exponentially since then, with his popularity at its strongest throughout Germany and Europe. In 2018, Kelvin shot to number 1 on German radio with the official studio version of the track.
For this latest video performance, the interconnectivity between BIMM’s campuses led to the collaboration between Kelvin, his management team and BIMM Berlin’s vocal students, who were all hand-picked by the campus’ Head Of Vocals, Andreas Ohnhaus.
“As I was coaching Kelvin in preparation for his tour, he told me that he was looking for a choir for his acoustic video shoot. He and his manager Bob James asked if I knew some students who could do it.
I selected vocal students who were already experienced in harmony and choir singing. I also chose students whose voices would blend well with Kelvin’s voice. And they did! The result is amazing. It’s a very emotional song and vocal performance by Kelvin, which is supported very professionally by our vocal students.”
This collaboration is just one example of the sorts of valuable industry opportunities which are made available to our students whilst studying with us. Discover more about our industry outreach and work experience programme here.
