Pat Garvey
Principal Lecturer, Drums
Pat teaches Drums and mentors students across all disciplines at BIMM Music Institute Brighton. He has been a professional drummer working internationally for over nearly 30 years and is one of the UK’s most prominent player-educators. As well as his extensive professional experience, Pat holds PGCert and masters qualifications in Learning and Teaching.
As a player Pat is the drummer in Ozric Tentacles and has played with artists from The David Cross Band (King Crimson), to prog overlords Lonely Robot, James, Tim Booth, Noel Redding (Jimi Hendrix), Freddie V (Average White Band), Lewis Stephens (Freddie King), Fischer Z and David Jackson (Van Der Graf Generator) to name a few.
He is proud to have some of his past and current students playing with some of the biggest acts in the world including Central Cee, Rag n’ Bone Man, The Darkness, Billy Ocean/Tricky, Queen & Adam Lambert, Two Door Cinema Club, Leona Lewis, Incognito, Lawson, Vader, and Charlie XCX amongst numerous others, as well as several newcomers including HotWax and Black Honey, and 1000's working successfully in the wider creative industries worldwide.
Pat is also a published author and has written over 300 articles for various drum magazines and webzines including the iconic Rhythm Magazine and iDrum Magazine. His first play-along book 'Lawless' published in 2015, and again as an e-Book in 2019. He is also an artist in his own right.
Pat proudly endorses and works closely with some of the biggest brands in the world including, VIC FIRTH, NATAL drums, MEINL cymbals, VIC FIRTH, REMO, sE Electronics, ROLAND, Protection Racket, Porter and Davies Tactile Monitoring and Dynasty U.S.A Marching Percussion.
