Maria Torres
Music Business
Maria Torres graduated from BIMM Music Institute Bristol in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Music Business.
After graduating, Maria secured a job as a management assistant at an esteemed music management company in London, assisting with a range of artists. Following this, she joined the Verdigris Management team, where Maria managed her own artists and built her roster.
Unfortunately, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Maria lost her job in early 2020. However, her hard work independently managing artist Sinead O’Brien led to Sinead being signed to independent label Chess Club Records for a single and EP deal.
Maria participated in the Saffron Records Springboard Project in 2021/2022, which helped to propel her music industry career. She launched her own artist management business, Sakura Artists, where she manages female and queer artists. With the help of Saffron’s project, she launched her website and participated in business development courses.
One year later, she was offered a job at Mother Artists as an Artist Manager, now working on IDLES, 86TVs, Heavy Lungs and more. This project allowed Maria to make a mark in the music industry as a manager and build her portfolio and career. She also aims to inspire other young people in the industry, primarily through mentoring schemes. Now, she’s a mentor at Saffron and regularly participates in industry panels. Maria has also taught masterclasses for Saffron and with us at BIMM.
She was subsequently nominated for Youth Music Charity’s Rising Star Award (Industry).
Huge congratulations to Maria for all her hard work, leading to a well-deserved award nomination.
Maria had this to say about her time at BIMM Music Institute Bristol:
“BIMM provided me with the foundations to build a music management career by covering all areas of the industry, whether that be tour budgeting or live show setups. This knowledge allowed me to take the leap and start managing my own artists.”
“I really enjoy working in Artist Management as you face a new learning curve every day, which allows me to develop personally and professionally throughout my career. Also, I really enjoy planning an artist’s timeline; seeing the success and results is always so rewarding.”
